The State Political Directorate (GPU) under the NKVD of the RSFSR was a state security body in the RSFSR. The special service was established on February 6, 1922, on the proposal of V. I. Lenin to the IX Congress of Soviets, by a resolution of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee abolishing the Cheka and transferring its powers to the GPU under the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the RSFSR.
The Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic was created in October 1924 from the Turkmen region of the Turkestan ASSR and small parts of the territories of the former Bukharan People’s Soviet Republic and the Khorezm SSR during the national-territorial delimitation in Central Asia. By a resolution of the 3rd Congress of Soviets of the USSR dated May 13, 1925, the Treaty on the Formation of the USSR was extended to the Turkmen SSR.
