In the early 1990s, numerous issues appeared that were published in the name of regions of Ukraine, never entered into postal circulation, and had a “fantasy” character. These issues consisted of various overprints made on postage stamps of the USSR and Ukraine, as well as on non-postage stamps and forgeries of original designs.

Stamps were overprinted in the name of Crimea, Donbas, Polissia, Zakarpattia, and other regions of Ukraine, as well as in the name of Ukrainian cities such as Chernobyl, Feodosia, Sumy, Myrhorod, and others. The overprints mostly featured the trident, a new denomination, and the inscription “Posta Ukrayiny” or the name of the city.
