In the early 1990s, numerous issues appeared that were published in the name of regions of Ukraine, had never been in postal circulation, and were of a "fantasy" nature. These issues consisted of various overprints made on postage stamps of the USSR and Ukraine, as well as on non-postage stamps, and included forgeries of original designs.
Stamps were overprinted in the name of Crimea, Donbas, Polissia, Zakarpattia, and other regions of Ukraine, as well as in the name of Ukrainian cities such as Chornobyl, Feodosia, Sumy, Myrhorod, and others. The overprints mostly featured a trident, a new denomination, and the inscription "Ukrposhta" or the name of the city.
