In the early 1990s, many issues appeared that were published in the name of regions of Ukraine, never entered postal circulation, and had a "fantasy" nature. These issues consisted of various overprints applied to postage stamps of the USSR and Ukraine, as well as to non-postal labels and counterfeit versions of original designs.
Stamps were overprinted in the name of Crimea, Donbas, Polissia, Zakarpattia, and other regions of Ukraine, as well as in the name of Ukrainian cities such as Chornobyl, Feodosia, Sumy, Myrhorod, and others. The overprints mainly featured the trident, a new denomination, and the inscription "Posta Ukrainy" or the name of the city.
