The use of the design elements handshake and the motto "Strength in unity!" is typical of many supplementary-issue monetary tokens, as they became an integral part of the symbolism of the Russian cooperative movement.
These issues were virtually devoid of ideology and politics. In a number of cases, the main "idea" of their issuers was simply to survive under the prevailing economic conditions. The only "propagandist" was trade and consumer cooperation with the motto "Strength in unity!". Supplementary-issue monetary tokens, as a temporary solution to the problem of cash shortages, made little claim to any broad circulation. Their "dominance" in local monetary circulation extended within the narrow limits of a certain area where the issuer's economic position was strong.
