The Odessa Machine-Building Plant, owned by the Bellino-Fenderikh company, was founded in the 1860s.

In 1922–1923, the plant was renamed State Machine-Building Plant No. 4 of the Metal Association. However, amid the severe devastation after the Civil War, it could not be restored at that time, and in 1922 the plant was officially placed into conservation.

At the memorial rally marking the death of V. I. Lenin, the plant’s workers pledged to restore it by May 1, 1924; wishes were also voiced to name the plant after the leader of the communists. On May 6, 1924, the Odessa provincial executive committee appealed to the VUTsIK with a request to assign Lenin’s name to the plant.

From 1930, the Fourth Machine-Building Plant named after Lenin finally took shape as a machine-tool manufacturing enterprise and, before the war, made a substantial contribution to industrialization.
