Fantastic issue of Turkestan. The stamps appeared on sale in 1920, allegedly issued by Baron Ungern-Sternberg before his armyβs retreat from Eastern Turkestan to Mongolia. The issue consists of 20 stamps with overprints on imperforate 1- and 2-kopeck stamps of the Russian Empire. The stamps are clearly of foreign manufacture, since in the word "RUB" (denominations of 5 and 10 rubles) a soft sign ("Π¬") is printed instead of the letter "B".
According to the catalog by M.A. Kramarenko: Fantastic issue, Kokand Autonomy, General I.M. Zaitsev. An unrecognized state that existed from 27 November 1917 to 22 February 1918 on the territory of the Turkestan Governor-Generalship.
