A fantasy issue of Turkestan. The stamps appeared on sale in 1920, purportedly issued by Baron Ungern-Sternberg before his army’s retreat from East Turkestan to Mongolia. The issue includes 20 stamps with overprints on imperforate 1- and 2-kopeck stamps of the Russian Empire. The stamps are clearly of foreign manufacture, since in the word “RUB” (the 5- and 10-ruble denominations) a soft sign (“Ь”) was printed instead of the letter “B”.
