SERGEY PAVLOVICH DIAGHILEV was born—the future art critic who, in 1907, would “cut a window to Europe” for Russian art. He would die in 1929.
MATILDA F. KSHESINSKAYA was born, a future dancer and favorite of Nicholas II. In 1920 she would emigrate to France and die in 1971. Her mansion in St. Petersburg would later house the Museum of the October Revolution.
