The Far Eastern Republic (FER) was an independent democratic state proclaimed on April 6, 1920, in the territory of Transbaikalia and the Russian Far East. The proclamation of the FER helped prevent a direct military conflict between Soviet Russia and Japan and facilitated the withdrawal of foreign troops from the territory of the Far Eastern region. In 1922, the FER became part of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) as the Far Eastern Oblast.
In November 1920, in Vladivostok, stamps were issued for Primorskaya Oblast bearing a lithographed black overprint of the abbreviation "FER" on stamps of the Russian Empire from the 17th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd issues.
