On July 29, 1923, airmail surcharge stamps were issued for one-day airmail service on the Vladivostok–Nikolsk-Ussuriysky (now Ussuriysk) and Vladivostok–Spassk-Primorsky (now Spassk-Dalny) routes. A lithographic overprint in red ink, featuring the silhouette of a biplane and a three-line inscription reading "Vladivostok 1923 20 kopeks," was applied to stamps of the Russian Empire 17th, 20th, and 21st issues, as well as to stamps of the Omsk government. On postal items, these stamps are extremely rare.
