The Central Asian Railway was formed by merging the Trans-Caspian Military Railway (completed in 1888) and the Samarkand–Andijan railway line (with branches to Tashkent and Margilan), opened for traffic on May 1, 1899.
The transport consumers’ cooperative society issues merchandise orders for small amounts. These orders are distributed among members and redeemed through deductions from wages. Credit is provided through the society’s shops. When goods are issued on vouchers to members, a discount is granted on purchases, except for beer and wine.
