Second Standard Series.
In December 1923, in connection with the switch to gold-based accounting, a new series of postage stamps with denominations from 1 to 18 kopeks in gold was issued. The design of the stamps in this series repeated that of the previous one: Mount Ararat, oil derricks topped by the federation’s coat of arms in the rays of a five-pointed star. In total, seven different denominations were issued, single-color, perforated.
All TSFSR stamps are known imperforate; however, they were not used for postal needs. Imperforate stamps with fake cancellations are also encountered.
As of January 1, 1924, the People’s Commissariat of Posts and Telegraphs of the USSR introduced, in all communications enterprises of Transcaucasia, all-Union standard stamps denominated in gold currency. As of February 1, 1924, all local postage payment signs were invalidated.
