The "Union of Kopecks" Society was founded on October 29, 1912.
Purpose of the society: to provide care for street children of the city of Tiflis, regardless of nationality or religion, up to the age of 15, and in exceptional cases older, in order to save them from perishing by preparing them for work.
To achieve its purpose, the society:
โ collects information and makes inquiries about street children;
โ has the right to protect children from cruel treatment, up to and including removing them;
โ organizes canteens and shelters for them;
โ supplies them with underwear and clothing;
โ organizes literacy schools for them;
โ opens schools of manual labor and home economics for them;
โ takes care of finding occupations for street children;
โ places street children for adoption;
โ provides medical assistance to street children;
โ organizes mobile libraries at schools for street children;
โ organizes all kinds of sensible entertainments for street children;
