At Moscow University, one of the first such organizations to appear in 1903 was the Mutual Aid Society of Law Students. As the largest student organization at the university, it printed exam syllabi and lecture notes and actively sold both its own books and books taken on commission. However, far less attention was paid to library work, possibly because it did not generate direct income. In 1908-1909, the society's library committee complained about the lack of premises and funds and stated that "for some time it would be necessary to abandon the idea of establishing the library on a broad scale." In 1910, the organization's activity began to decline, and in 1912 the law society ceased to exist.
