April 5 — The coronation of Emperor Paul I. On the same day, he issued the historic "Act of Succession," which repealed Peter the Great's decree on appointing an heir at the monarch's discretion and established a clear order of succession through the male line (from father to eldest son). This law remained in effect until 1917.
April 5 — The "Manifesto on the Three-Day Corvée" was promulgated. This decree formally limited the use of serf labor for the landowner to three days per week. Although it was often not observed, this was the empire's first attempt to legally restrict the exploitation of serfs.
