June 4 — Peter I granted Nikita Demidov permission to build metallurgical plants in the Kungur district in the Urals.
Demidov began constructing new plants, buying up land and serf peasants. Soon the tsar granted the Demidovs noble status. Demidov’s son Akinfiy continued the construction of the plants.
In the southwestern part of the Altai Mountains, more than 30 mines were discovered, including the famous Zmeinogorsk mine. From its ores, in 1743, the first Russian silver was obtained, and soon gold as well.
