14 April — at Makhachkala Airport, a Chechen man, Zaindi Tibiev, seized a bus with 30 passengers, demanding a helicopter and $100,000. After negotiations, the terrorist released the hostages, keeping only the Military Commissar of Dagestan, Major General Magomed Tinomagomedov, who was later replaced by Police Colonel Amar Tubaliev, who disarmed the terrorist and captured him alive.
28 April — an explosion in the railway station building in Pyatigorsk. Two people were killed and 17 hospitalized. On 29 April, two women were detained: Aiset Dadasheva and Fatima Taymaskhanova, accused of carrying out this terrorist attack.
26 May — in Moscow, the car of Lyubov Kezina, Chair of the capital’s Education Committee, was fired upon, as a result of which she was wounded.
27 June — an explosion on the express train “Yunost” (Moscow–St. Petersburg). Five people were killed, 13 wounded.
8 July — as a result of the explosion of a radio-controlled improvised explosive device in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, nine officers of the consolidated OMON detachment guarding the Dagestan border were killed and 13 wounded.
12 July — a terrorist attack in Moscow on trolleybus route 78; there are wounded.
22 July — unknown assailants fired at the apartment of Sergei Dubinin, Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. There were no casualties.
18 August — in St. Petersburg, the car of the city’s Deputy Governor Mikhail Manevich was fired upon. The official died on the way to the hospital.
29 October — in the city of Buynaksk (Republic of Dagestan), an officers’ dormitory of the 138th Motor Rifle Brigade of the 58th Army was blown up. There were no victims.
3 December — in accordance with the strategic arms limitation agreement between the United States and Russia, the destruction of RSM-52 sea-launched ballistic missiles began in the Barents Sea. A total of 20 missiles were destroyed.
