The “Ice Hockey” stamp from the series “VIII Winter Olympic Games in Squaw Valley (USA)” was issued on February 18, 1960. Print run: 3,500,000 copies. Artist: R. Zhitkov. At the American Olympic Games, the Soviet Union ice hockey team won bronze medals.

A typographic overprint with the new 1 kopek rate effective January 1, 1961.

Black and red overprints “s 1.1.61 1k.” were made on standard USSR stamps of 1953 and 1957, as well as on one stamp from the VIII Winter Olympic Games 1960 series and one from the XVII Summer Olympic Games 1960 series. In connection with the approaching currency reform, and apparently at the request of the regional administration, the printing house sent samples of the proposed stamps to be issued with overprints. For some reason, apparently, they were not approved, since each of the seven stamps is known only in a single example in unused condition.
