20 July 1899 — the Zemstvo postal service of Lokhvytsia Uyezd (Poltava Governorate) was opened. Mail was sent from the uyezd center, the town of Lokhvytsia, to the volost administrations. Delivery of private correspondence was paid for with Zemstvo postage stamps. Their shape, size, printing methods, design, and the many hand-applied overprints are highly diverse. All stamps bear an image of the uyezd coat of arms.
