The "Kazakhs" stamp from the "Peoples of the USSR" series was issued in July 1933. Print run: 200,000 copies. Artist: Vasily Zavyalov. The stamp depicts Kazakhs in traditional costumes on horseback, set against a yurt and a passing train. The Kazakh population of the USSR exceeded 3 million people.

The stamp lists the ethnicity as "Kazaki"; this spelling was correct for the time the stamp was issued.

On February 5, 1936, a decree was issued by the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh ASSR on the Russian pronunciation and written form of the word "kazak".

For a more accurate Russian pronunciation of the word "Qazaq" and in accordance with the Kazakh pronunciation of this word, in derivatives of it the final letter "k" in the Russian pronunciation and written form of the word "kazak" should be replaced with the letter "kh"; accordingly, it should be written not "kazak" but "kazakh", not "Kazakstan" but "Kazakhstan", etc.
