In 1947, the Russian and Soviet animal painter Alexey Nikanorovich Komarov created the painting “Bear in the Forests of Bashkiria” commissioned by A. F. Kots. The painting is exhibited at the Darwin Museum. For the 1961 issue of the postage-stamp series “Fauna of the USSR,” A. N. Komarov redrew his 1947 painting as a mirror image, preserving the main сюжет.
On January 28, a stamp was issued — Brown Bear — from the “Fauna of the USSR” series. Print run: 2.8 million.
The series consists of 18 stamps released over 4 years (1957, 1959, 1960, 1961). All the stamps were created by the same artist.
In 1969, the publishing house Sovetsky Khudozhnik released a postcard, 145×100 cm, featuring a reproduction of A. N. Komarov’s 1947 painting.
