The house belonged to the merchant Averin. Until 1812, there was an inn here. In the 1900s, the house was turned over to Bakakin’s tea room.
In 2012, while reinforcing the building’s foundation, a casket containing documents and personal belongings was discovered. It turned out to have belonged to an Austrian, the captain of a merchant ship that stopped in Plyos in 1878. The declaration stated that the captain lived on the summer veranda of Averin’s house for a month while his ship was being repaired. During his stay, he fell in love with a local beauty, but her father was against the match. Then the father caught them off guard in this house, and the young couple fled to the ship, escaping his wrath. They forgot the casket. It turned out that the Austrian was a noble brewer, and inside the casket was a book of traditional Austrian beer recipes.
